The mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds in the world. But with the right conditions, it can grow into a giant shrub that can reach over 30 feet high! So what does that have to do with faith? Everything!
Mustard Seed Faith
Mark 4: 30-32 reads like this, "Then He said, 'To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on the earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.'"
So something so small can produce something so massive! And it's the same with our faith. All you need is a little. 🤏🏼
Cultivate It
Did you catch what I said earlier about the mustard seed? It's with the right conditions that it will grow massively.
So, you need God to come through with something, or you decide to step out on faith for something. And you muster up enough faith to pray what seems to you as a big prayer. After you pray and ask God, what do you do now? You cultivate that faith. How? Here are a few ways:
1. Spend time in the Word
Just how you need to eat food in order for your physical body to remain strong, healthy and survive, it's the same with your spirit. And the only thing your spirit eats is the word of God. You have to get the word in you. It's what builds faith. Romans 10:17 say, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
When you're believing God for something, it's so important to make sure that your faith is constantly being encouraged. The opposite is true too.
Don't spend time listening to things or people who are going to discourge you. Because that will make you slip into doubt. Make sure that you are feeding your faith, not doubt or fear.
2. Praise & Thanksgiving
Now that you've asked and stepped out in faith, it's time to start thanking God in advance for the answer. 😀🙌🏼
This is how to engage your faith. You start praising Him before you see the answer. Remember, your praise is a weapon. The Bible says in Psalm 8:2, "You have built a stronghold by the songs of children. Strength rises up with the chorus of infants. This kind of praise has power to shut Satan's mouth. Childlike worship will silence the madness of those who oppose you."
EXAMPLE:
When I was in South Africa last year, my leader was telling us a story. He said that he was in a particular nation of Africa having some evangelistic meetings, but that it was pouring rain. It was an outside event with a big tent set up. The rain was up to their ankles. A lot of times when it's raining like that it discourages people from coming out. So after the meeting, the church members decided to pray that there will be no rain the next day for the meeting. But according to the weather it was scheduled to rain again. So they prayed. Then as an act of faith, they went outside and started dancing in the rain and thanking God and praising God in advance for making the sun shine tomorrow, and thanking Him that there will be no rain. The next day, the sun was shining without a cloud in the sky. So then they praised God even more.
By faith, they started praising God for the answer before it came. You need to do the same.
**This online course will help you build that foundation**
3. Confession & Action
Now that you've asked, now that you're getting the word in you and building faith, and are praising God in advance for the answer, start speaking it out of your mouth! Start declaring and confessing it. Along with your confession do something as an act of faith that would apply.
EXAMPLE:
A few years ago while in a time of prayer, my mom said she heard God tell her it was time for me to go on a worship tour. At this time, I had not done any traveling or guest worship for other churches or events in over a decade. A part of me thought that was over for me. I had been discouraged and stop believing God to use me in that way. So when she told me, I was like, "Well, I don't have faith for that. But if you believe that's what God told you, then I'm just gonna ride on your faith, because I don't see that happening." So what did my mom do? She started telling everyone at church that I was going on a worship tour. They would ask where I was going, and she would say, " I don't know. But she's going on a worship tour." So as an act of faith my mom started calling churches asking if I could come do worship for them. For a few weeks she got a of 'no's'. But she wasn't discouraged. One day, she called a church in Buffalo, New York she found on the internet. The pastor answered the phone only because he thought it was a relative of his from California. After speaking with he and his wife, they said ok, I could come. That was the first yes we got, and it was all I needed for my faith to finally engage. Over the next 8 months, I did 40 cities and 5 radio interviews across America. I really did go on a worship tour. 🙂
So what is something you can do by faith to agree with God?
Let the Holy Spirit giude you in that. But whatever He says to do, do it.
I have something for you below. 12 Faith Confessions that you can speak over yourself. There are verses to go along with each one. That way you can start praying God's word over yourself and be encouraged.
To live by faith is an adventure, friend! So, get the word in you, agree with God, praise Him in advance, start confessing it out of your mouth, and do something that is going to encourage you and engage your faith. And watch what He does! 😊
