Build on the Rock

A lot of times as we go about life and do the things that we think we are supposed, and know that we should, we sometimes still experience so much uncertainty and doubt. Why is that? I think we need to take a look at our foundation. What exactly is our faith built on? Let's look at a story Jesus told.

Luke 6:46-49

Unfortunately, I believe in the Western world that a lot of people have been sold an "Easy Christianity." They were made to believe that if they came to Christ, all their problems would go away, and that nothing bad would ever happen to them again because God loves them. And He will make sure they're taken care of and everything will be good. Have you heard something similar?

But I'm sorry to inform you that is not true. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I think a lot people fail to realize that in this story Jesus tells the storm came to both houses, not just one.

And that my friends, is just called life!

Obedience

In verse 46 of Luke 6 Jesus says, "But why do you call me 'Lord, Lord' and do not do the things which I say?" (NKJV)

He goes on in verse 48 to say that those who are obedient to His word are like those who dug deep and laid the foundation of their house on the rock. In verse 49, He says that those who heard His word and did nothing is like a person who built their house with no foundation.

So you see, your foundation is attached to your obedience.

When you first give your life to Christ it's new, exciting, different. You are learning a new way to live life. As you begin to grow, it is important to do the things you see in His word, and things He has told you to do in times of prayer. This is how you build a strong foundation. If you don't, you will be building your Christian walk on sand. And when the storms of life come - a job loss, someone in your family dies, a broken heart/divorce, a health crisis, etc., your house will crumble.

**This online course will help you build that foundation**

When you're obedient to God's word, even if you don't fully understand it, or it goes against your own feelings and desires, you are building a strong foundation.

When the storms of life beat upon your house, it won't fall because you have learned that God is faithful, and that He is good. No matter what you see or feel, you have learned that He is your rock, that He is reliable. Because you have done the things He asked of you and He came through, and you saw growth in yourself. It built confidence in you. It built your confidence in Christ.

So what now?

Life happens to us all. We live in this fallen world, and sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. But knowing that God will sustain you even in the storm will enable you to stand firm.

There's a phrase the old saints used to say, "Trouble don't last always." Trouble will come, storms will come, but you will make it through. Jesus said in John 16:33 "In this life you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." HE is the Rock that we need to build upon.

So remember, do the things He is asking of you. Cut off friendships He is telling you to, donate your finances to that individual or organization He is saying give to, apologize to who He has reminded you about, etc. Whatever He says to you, do it! Even if you don't feel like it, do it by faith. This is how we stand in times of trouble. This is how we have confidence even in times of difficulty. Because we have been obedient and built our house on the Rock.
